Review: Undying by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner

Title: Undying

Author: Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner

Genre: Young Adult/Sci-Fi

In short: A satisfying conclusion to a fun-fast paced duology.

No spoilers for Undying. Some for Unearthed.

It wasn’t long ago that I read the first book in this duology, Unearthed. At the time it was touted as a Tomb Raider, sci-fi, space, young adult crossover. It also read like it. Unearthed was an immensely entertaining book. When I found out there was a sequel I knew this was a book I simply had to get my hands on.

Undying picks up directly where Unearthed left off, with the hero’s of the series hiding aboard an alien vessel headed for earth. But if you can’t remember that much, well the authors have quit cleverly put a summary of the first book at the start of the second (this NEEDS to be a thing!).

There are a lot of other cool thing about this book. The pacing is great. The characters are great. The plot twist is also great. And, the settings took me right back to that time just a few months ago when I myself was travelling through several European countries.

Unfortunately, I didn’t like this book quite as much as the first. I mean, Earth is simply a boring setting when you’ve been to another planet. There was also no thrill of characters falling in love with each other (because, well, they already had).

I’m rating this book 3/5 stars on Goodreads.
